Students have benefited from looking at this region through the lens of the environment, entrepreneurship and role models. The discussions in class and the people that donated their time and expertise (including those that didn't make it past the cutting room floor) all had impacts on the future of these students. Hope for a viable lifestyle in this region, and the world at large, has an economic impact we cannot measure in immediate dollars and cents. The transfer of communications skills and the empowerment of youth are invaluable investments in our future.

Song Writing Workshops

Song writing workshops take place over a two to three hour time slot.

The students listen to examples of styles, themes, forms, and rhyme schemes, analyzing for meaning and structure.

The group then, collaboratively, picks their own theme. They work together through a process creating lyrics, picking a style, a form and a tune.

Negotiation, compromise and time pressure in the context of creativity and a thematic goal makes for an engaging and challenging experience.

The product of this intense, compact experience is then recorded "as is", in the classroom.

These are songs in their rawest form, as they exist at the beginning of a process. Much like a document in first draft, these need further exploration and development to reach their fullest potential.

We present these songs as examples of what a few people can achieve when set to a task with rigorous constraints.

We would like to thank the students for the focus and integrity they bring to this learning process.

Problem solvers, peace makers, ground breaking innovators and team players use some of the skills explored in the creation of a song.

I'm Travelling

The sand between my toes,
waves lapping on the shore
I feel so contented
I want nothing more.
I'm travelling.

It gives me time to think
as I move along.
I know I'm in the place,
the place where I belong,
I'm travelling.

chorus:

I'm travelling, I'm travelling
and everywhere I roam
I know I'll always find my way back home,
my way back home.

repeat

These Are The Questions

Can you say what you want?
Are you being held  back?
Can your mind be bought?
Is there something you lack?

Can you do what you please?
Do you have the freedom you need?
Are you down on you knees?
Do you struggle and plead?

chorus:

these are the questions
that are buried under nations.
These are the boundaries to Freedom.
These are the world's expectations.

repeat

Dreaming of Him

It's Friday afternoon
He's calling my name
It sounds so persistent
Am I going insane?

I wish this day were over
It feels like a year
It seems like forever
I wish he were here

I'm slippin' away
I need to slow down
I'm not really thinking
My heart starts to pound

I'm getting away
I'm getting away
I'm getting away

Am I going insane?
